How to get there

1. Sites are spread — plan driving logistics and do not rush. Northern and western precincts host several public sites.
2. Combine with Halls Gap base or northern day plans; avoid stacking too many sites into a checklist blitz.

How to do it (step by step)

1. Read on-site signage. Stay on formed paths. Never touch rock art or engrave anything.
2. Photography: distance only; no chalk, water, or “enhancement.” Some motifs or sites may have restrictions — obey them.
3. Quiet voices. This is living culture and sacred Country, not a theme-park prop.
4. Consider guided experiences with operators that respect Traditional Owner protocols.

Gariwerd is the Aboriginal name for this landscape. Traditional Owners include Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali / Jadawadjali peoples, with partner organisations such as Barengi Gadjin Land Council, Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation among those connected to Country and management partnerships. This website is not affiliated with any of them.

Public access is a privilege. Do not touch art, do not climb on shelters, do not litter, and do not share precise sensitive location tips that encourage trespass. Distance photography only.

Practical tips

• Heat and flies can be intense — water and sun protection still matter on “easy” cultural walks.
