1. Cultural respect

2. Day-walk decision tree (pick one path)

Easy / half-day

  • The Balconies (Reed Lookout)
  • Boroka Lookout
  • Optional Venus Baths
  • Skip hard peaks if heat/fatigue

Classic first visit

  • Pinnacle (route by fitness)
  • Lunch Halls Gap reset
  • Balconies + Boroka
  • One hard morning only

Intermediate rock day

  • Wonderland / Grand Canyon loops
  • Pinnacle optional add-on
  • Cool day, early start
  • Shorten if heat rises

Multi-day / advanced

  • GPT sections (book camps)
  • Mount William / Stapylton
  • Trained, booked, exit options
  • Not a day-trip add-on

3. Classic first-visit day (Halls Gap)

07:00–07:30 — Status check Halls Gap: water, snacks, CFA rating + Parks Victoria track status screenshots.
07:45–12:00 — The Pinnacle Shorter signed route for mixed fitness; Wonderland links only if fit and cool. Hard turn-around time; stay on track.
12:00–13:30 — Lunch reset Food, shade, honest debrief. Convert afternoon to one lookout if the morning was enough.
14:00–15:30 — The Balconies Short walk, big views; supervise edges; queue calmly at peak times.
15:45–16:45 — Boroka Lookout Panorama stop; optional golden hour if safe. Headlamp if dusk; drive slowly for wildlife.
Evening — Optional easy only Venus Baths if energy remains — otherwise rest. No hero stacking.

4. Wonderland focus day

Morning

  • Early Wonderland car park
  • Signed loops / Grand Canyon approaches
  • Water 2–3L · grip shoes · poles optional

Midday decision

  • Pinnacle add-on only if legs/heat/daylight agree
  • Otherwise descend and claim the win
  • Afternoon: recovery, not another peak

5. Melbourne day-trip realism

6. Mackenzie Falls (Migunang wirab) — status-critical

7. Grampians Peaks Trail (overview)

Plan

  • Full trail ~164 km multi-day
  • Most walkers: section first
  • North / Central / South options
  • Official booking map required

Realism

  • Book camps early (spring/holidays)
  • Re-check fire recovery status
  • Train with pack weight on rock
  • Write heat/fire turn-around rules

8. Wildflower season notes

9. Rock art respect (public sites only)
